ROCKVILLE, Md.—The Harford softball team split a doubleheader against Montgomery College-Rockville, taking game one, 7-3 and falling in game two, 6-4, on Wednesday at Rockville.  The Fighting Owls (7-9, 3-7 MDJUCO) outhit the Knights (4-8, 2-6 MDJUCO), 13-5 in game two, but Rockville capitalized on four Harford errors, scoring four unearned earns to snatch the win.

Sophomore Audrey Werneke (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) led Harford, going 4-for-6 on the day with three runs, a double, two RBI, a walk, and a hit by pitch, while freshman Natalie Baker (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) (1-3) earned the game one win by allowing just three runs (none earned) on two hits and fanning three batters in seven innings.  Sophomore Sarah Cooley (Clermont, Fla./Bel Air) (3-5) suffered the game two loss, giving up six runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out three in six innings.

Sara Moses was the only Rockville player to tally multiple hits on the day, going 2-for-6 with two runs, a double and three RBI, while Kathy Holonich pitched both games and took the win and the loss as she allowed a total of 11 runs (10 earned) on 24 hits and struck out two in 14 innings.

Game two saw Harford take a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings off a wild pitch and Cooley's RBI single, but Rockville took advantage of three Owl errors in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.

Harford answered with three runs of its own in the fifth off Cooley's RBI single, freshman Mariah Ripken's (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace/Kutztown) groundout RBI single and freshman Amber Thompson's (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) RBI single to build a 5-3 advantage.

The Owls also added single runs in both the sixth and seventh on the way to the 7-3 game one win.

Game two once again saw Harford take a 2-0 lead, this time with two runs in the second off RBI singles by Werneke and Thompson, but also like game one, Rockville overtook Harford, tallying four runs (two earned) in the third off two walks, two hits, a wild pitch and two Harford errors.

Both teams would add one run each for the next two innings for a 6-4 game after five innings, which would hold as Rockville earned the win.

The Fighting Owls return to action on Friday when they host Division-III No. 1 Brookdale for a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
