Harford Community College has some of the premier facilities in the nation among junior colleges and the impending renovation and expansion to the existing Susquehanna Center, which is scheduled to be completed in November 2010, will enhance its facilities even more.
The Athletics Department at Harford is housed in the Susquehanna Center, which was built in 1968, and also contains the gymnasium, fitness center, dance studio and swimming pool. The 49,150 square foot building is slated to be gutted and renovated beginning in September 2009 and is scheduled to be completed by August 2010. The expansion of the Susquehanna Center will include a 37,460 square foot arena, which will bring the total building size up to 86,610 square feet and is due to be completed by November 2010.
Susquehanna Center Expansion
The 2,552-seat arena expansion will replace the existing Susquehanna Center gymnasium as the home to Harford’s men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams and will feature chair back and bleacher style seating for spectators.
The arena floor plan will allow for exhibitions, trade shows, concerts, commencements and various other events and will have a 3,400-seat capacity for staged events.
The expansion project will cost an estimated $26 million and is being funded by the State of Maryland, Harford County and Harford Community College.
Fitness Center
