Snowmageddon 2010 Forces Cancellations for Harford Athletics

BEL AIR, Md.—Snowmageddon 2010, which dropped over three feet of snow on the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area over the course of two storms and six days has forced Harford Athletics to cancel all of its home contests scheduled for the week of Feb. 7.  The Harford men's and women's basketball teams' games which were to be played on the road are similarly displaced.

In anticipation of the first storm, which began on Friday, Feb. 5, Harford played a doubleheader on Thursday night which was originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6.  The men's basketball game against Chesapeake did not fare as well.  The game, which was rescheduled from Jan. 30 due to a previous snowstorm, was slated to be played on Monday night, but because of the massive snowstorm last weekend, was rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 12.  After a second round of snow brought 10-20 more inches to the Baltimore/D.C. area, the game was cancelled, along with the men's contest at Germantown (Feb. 11) and the women's game at Anne Arundel (Feb. 9).

The men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Garrett (Feb. 12) has also been cancelled, while the men's lacrosse trip to North Carolina which includes scrimmages at Hampden-Sydney and N.C. State.

The cancellations effectively end the men's and women's basketball regular seasons with the opening round of the MDJUCO Tournament scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16 and the remainder of the tournament occurring from Feb. 18-21.

The Harford men, who were vying for a top-eight seed in order to host an opening round game, will finish the truncated regular season in a tie for fifth place and will play host to an opening round game on Tuesday.  Seedings for both the men's and women's tournaments will be announced on Sunday and information will be posted at www.HarfordAthletics.com as it becomes available.
