ARNOLD, Md.—The Harford women's lacrosse held CCBC-Essex to just two goals in a 21-2 rout on Monday before falling to No. 4 Anne Arundel, 17-12 on Thursday night. The Fighting Owls (6-5, 3-4 MDJUCO) and Pioneers (12-2, 6-1 MDJUCO) were knotted at seven after 30:00 of play, but Anne Arundel outscored Harford 10-5 in the second half to claim the victory.
Freshman Holly Webb (Abingdon, Md./John Carroll) led Harford with four goals on the night, while freshman Jaclyn Hall (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) totaled four points with three goals and an assist. On the Pioneer side, Amanda Jones and Kaitlyn Warf tallied four goals each, while Erica McMahon had four points (3g, 1a).
The teams went back and forth for the first 10 minutes, with the score tied at two, before Harford completed a 4-0 run to take a 5-2 lead with 17:35 remaining.
Anne Arundel would score three straight of its own to tie it up at five goals each with just under 22 minutes left to play before Harford brought the lead to two goals, 7-5, only to see the Pioneers knot the score and take a 7-7 tie into the break.
Anne Arundel would score three goals within the first 4:39 of the second half to complete a 5-0 run and take a 10-7 lead, which Harford never recovered from on the way to the 17-12 decision.
The Pioneers dominated possession throughout and held Harford to just 14 ground balls while outshooting the Owls, 39-21. The Harford goalie corps of freshmen Stefanie Saul (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) and Kaitlyn Hall (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) managed a combined 17 saves, Saul with 10 in 30:00 and Hall with seven in 30:00, while Kirsten Dolle stopped five shots in 60:00.
Freshman Yuliya Kolosey (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) led Harford with nine points (4g, 5a) against Essex, while Jaclyn Hall added seven (5g, 2a) and sophomore Melissa Warczynski (Street, Md./North Harford) totaled six points (3g, 3a). Kaitlyn Hall and Saul split time in goal with Hall making seven saves on eight shots in 30:00 and Saul totaling three saves in 30:00.
The Fighting Owls return to action on Wednesday when they wrap-up the regular season by hosting Howard for a 3:30 p.m. game.
