ROCKVILLE, Md.—The Harford men's tennis team won its third straight with an 8-1 rout of MDJUCO conference-foe Montgomery College-Rockville. The Fighting Owls (3-2) swept the doubles matches and dropped just one singles match, a hard-fought battle at the No. 1 spot.
Sophomores Josh Meier (Belcamp, Md./Home School) and Steve Heagy (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and freshmen Walker Bazemore (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright), Kevin O'Brien (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Marc Donars (Joppa, Md./Harford Tech) were all double-winners for Harford, while Andrew Ortis won the No. 1 singles match over freshman Cory Litka (York, Pa./Aberdeen/East Stroudsburg) for the Knights (0-3).
Litka and Meier faced Ortis and Brad Toulbee in the No. 1 doubles match, coming away with a slim 8-6 victory, before Litka fell to Ortis in a three-set, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8, No. 1 match and Meier easily dispatched Toulbee, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Heagy and Bazemore paired for the No. 2 doubles match, which saw them down Kamron Najibi and Thomas Rigolage, 8-1, while Heagy defeated Najibi, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. The Knights only fielded a team of five players, giving Bazemore the No. 6 win and O'Brien and Donars the No. 3 doubles win by default.
Donars and O'Brien rounded out the individual results with Donars downing Jason Phannschmidt, 7-6 (10-8), 6-0 in the No. 4 slot and O'Brien beating Rigolage, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 doubles.
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday when Harford hosts Rockville for a 3:30 p.m. match.
