BEL AIR, Md.—Harford Community College has partnered with Strategic Marketing Affiliates (SMA) to license the newly-created Harford Athletics logos and word marks, Athletic Director Ken Krsolovic announced recently. The process for new marks and the accompanying licensing program came in conjunction with Harford's Marketing and Public Relations office.
Harford worked with New York-based Phoenix Design Works to complete a redesign of the athletic department's logos which was finalized in September 2009. The resulting marks began to be displayed soon thereafter. The design process provided Harford with its primary mark, which includes a custom, stylized “Harford” typeface and a Fighting Owl head, secondary marks that include standalone text, a letter mark and several secondary marks. The color palette identified cornflower blue as Harford's primary color, along with white, while making dark blue the accent color. To view all the new logos, click here.
Through its affiliation with SMA, Harford will participate in a licensing program that oversees the use of its trademarked primary and secondary athletics logos and word marks on a variety of items. The College also retains its institutional “stacked” logo and the traditional college seal as current official marks. SMA will also work to promote, protect, profit and preserve the college's brands by authorizing, in partnership with Harford, the use of its logos on merchandise carried by various vendors.
Any person, organization or corporation wishing to manufacture a product (i.e. apparel, gifts, equipment, etc.) bearing or containing any of the marks of Harford Community College, or wanting to provide a service that will use the marks, must enter into a licensing agreement that authorizes the use of those marks.
Only officially licensed and approved vendors, also known as licensees, may produce items bearing the logos or word marks of the institution. Those wishing to become licensed and produce such items can obtain an application by contacting SMA. Any questions regarding the application and/or approval process should be directed to SMA.
Upon approval as a licensed vendor, licensees can access the correct logos and word marks for Harford Athletics via SMA's Logos on Demand (LOD) system. LOD is the premier, web-based digital asset fulfillment system available today and creates unparalleled service to the licensee so they can produce products more accurately and efficiently than ever before. Additionally, SMA offers licensees assistance with submissions of artwork while they familiarize themselves with the process using LOD.
Product designs must be submitted into the Approvals on Demand (AOD) on-line artwork approval system for review prior to production. Items bearing the trademarked logos or marks of Harford Athletics without a license may be considered counterfeit and subject to legal action, including, but not limited to, seizure of the items. Additionally, licensed vendors who fail to submit designs for approval prior to production may have their license revoked.
