BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's soccer team (1-0-0) opened the 2010 campaign with a 12-0 shutout over Gloucester on Friday at Harford Stadium. Two Fighting Owls posted multiple goal games, while another pair added a goal and two assists in the record win.
The Fighting Owls peppered the net with 38 shots, 20 on goal, and found the back of the net a school record 12 times, including a eight markers after halftime. It took Harford 20 minutes to crack the scoring column, but Jordan Kunkel set up a pair of goals in a 2:14 span to help kick start the scoring action.
Kunkel assisted on Jacob Duarte's first career goal, a header that beat the keeper high off the forward's cross. Moments later Kunkel helped give Harford a 2-0 advantage on midfielder Patrick Meagher's first tally of the season. Kunkel also added a goal in the 53rd minute to complete his four-point night.
Rookie James Tweedie also added a pair of helpers and his first career goal in the win. Meagher and Brian Connelly each scored two goals for the Fighting Owls. Connelly's came four minutes apart, the first unassisted tally in the 40th minute, and the second, a rocket that deflected in the net after grazing the crossbar on a beautiful one-timer from Ryan Corn.
Derek Hyde, Jahlil Gage, Brent Mooney, Brenton Violante and Brendan Cole chipped in the dozen goals in the home opener. The Roadrunners got off five shots, one on net. Rookie goalie Andrew Bodt recorded the save, while sophomore George Tsakiris got the start and earned the victory.
The Fighting Owls return to the pitch on Monday, Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. against Delaware Tech-Stanton.
